5-Minute Kids Program
The 5-Minute Kids Program is a creative and highly effective service delivery model designed for students working on articulation and speech sound skills. Unlike traditional pull-out group therapy, where students often spend valuable time waiting while others participate, this program is structured to maximize active learning and individualized practice while minimizing unproductive downtime and time away from the classroom.
Developed through a four-year pilot implementation, comparative data showed that students participating in the 5-Minute Kids Program were discharged an average of five and a half months earlier than students receiving traditional speech services. Students also spent approximately 47 additional hours in their general education classroom setting.
This program delivers speech therapy through short, individualized five-minute drill sessions scheduled throughout the week. Sessions typically take place in the hallway or another nearby location, allowing students to receive intensive articulation practice with minimal disruption to classroom instruction. The structure of the program supports a high number of correct responses and focused practice on each student’s individual goals, while requiring very little planning time for the SLP.
